Saying goodbye to GTI

It's been over a year since I started here at GTI Media and now it's time to write my exit post. In my time here I have produced numerous campaigns, created hundreds of social posts and written countless articles. I have attended and managed events, travelled to a variety of different places and spoken to more people than I can remember. All in all, it has been pretty awesome. 

Some of you may be wondering why I am leaving if I enjoy my job so much? That's a very good question, but it's one that I have an excellent answer to. I am moving on to progress in my career. I think there comes a time in every job where you are presented with new opportunities and it's then your decision to either take up those opportunities or decline them. In this case I decided that the move was right for me.  

As a digital marketing specialist there are so many prospects. With the constant growth of social media and technology new doors are always opening up to opportunities. Career opportunities that I could have only dreamed of when I was at university. I have always said digital marketing is the 'fun' job. I mean, I get to sit on social media for a living, I get to follow trends and write fun, interesting yet helpful articles and I get to relive my university days at every fair I attend. 

Choosing a career is a decision we all have to make. I remember using and various other recruitment platforms to find advice and guidance on how to apply for jobs. Job hunting is probably one of the most stressful experiences I have ever had. Worrying whether someone is going to hire you at all when there is so much competition.

I was finally hired and built up my experience which then led me here to GTI Media. My career has progressed very quickly in 3 years. In industry years, 3 years is such a short space of time. It's a remarkable feeling,  so for all you job hunters out there, I can only advise that you be persistent and keep applying.

It has been a real pleasure working here as their digital marketing executive and I must say I have learnt a great deal about the company, industry and consumers as well as about myself and where I see myself in the future. Marketing has always been the area where I showed the most potential. It is such a diverse sector and has enable me to grow and learn about so many different industries and how I can apply my skills and knowledge to those areas.

If you're considering a path into Digital Marketing I can only boast about it. Digital marketing is such a brilliant profession. To use what creativity you have and to incorporate it into a social campaign is so exhilarating. 

I would like to finish off this post with a BIG thank you to the team at GTI Media, especially the marketing team whom I have become good friends with and have learnt a great deal from.

This past week we have taken part in work experience at Group GTI. We have had the opportunity to work with several departments and delightful team members. This has allowed us to learn a variety of new skills.

A department we worked in was finance. We had the opportunity to get involved with multiple aspects of the department and learn the duties of the different jobs roles. One of our tasks was to look over invoices to see if all the payments were made and we were fortunate enough to receive one to one advice from the finance team who guided us throughout the day. However, we soon discovered that the finance department was not for us due to the repetition of activities. 

Secondly, we worked in the sales and campaign management departments. Specifically in campaign management, we had the opportunity to produce emails on job vacancies which will be sent out to students looking for jobs. This helped us improve our direct writing skills which will be beneficial in whatever line of work we choose in the future. A highlight of our time was experiencing first-hand the responsibilities and duties of a sales manager; which demonstrated key organisational and communication skills.

Another department we experienced was events. We were given the opportunity to research venues and hotels for an upcoming event which followed specific criteria. After discovering that this was a main part of events, we came to the conclusion that although it was a fun activity we couldn’t see ourselves pursuing this career.
Last and foremost, we had a great experience in the marketing department. Analysing competitor websites was highly interesting and helped us developed some of the required job skills used in marketing. We inputted our opinions and thoughts of their new programme which is being developed and targeted to people our age. This gave us the feeling that we were genuinely helping the company and our input was valued. Furthermore, we also put together a collection of posts to forward onto the TARGETjobs social media pages. The aim of this was to grab the attention of the students following the company and to portray a youthful perspective. 

To conclude, collectively we feel that the most suited department for us is marketing. This is because it allowed us to share our opinions and is a more creative side to the business. In the future we would hope to enter a similar line of work of the experience in marketing we’ve had. We thank all those who provided us with the experience and we are very grateful for this opportunity. We would recommend this experience in the future as it has given us a clear insight into where we would fit in at this company as well as many others.

TARGETjobs careers round-up post

Hello everyone!
Welcome to this week's round-up post. There are not many updates for you this week, however I do have a few career opportunities that you may be interested in.

So, we have had the pleasure of working alongside year 10 work experience this week (Phoebe and Emily). Whilst they have potentially made us feel rather old (Can you remember what you were like in Year 10?), we have also learnt a great deal about their aspirations and future plans. They have be an asset this week and it has been as fun for them as it has for us.. hopefully that means it has been a great deal of fun! They have kindly offered to write a blogpost about their experiences here at GTI which will be coming soon! 

This week we are saying farewell to the wonderful Chloe Burgess (Marketing Director) as she sets off on her maternity leave and motherhood journey! Not to worry, she will be back in action soon enough so it isn't a final farewell! But we wish her the best of luck with everything. 

Now, onto careers advice..

Once you’ve submitted your targeted and proofread training contract applications before the July deadlines (having read all our handy applications advice on, of course), you’ll hopefully  be invited along to a law firm’s assessment centre. TARGETjobs Careers Round-up

I haven't written a round-up post for a few weeks now. I thought it was time to update you all on company matters, updates and job opportunities.

We have has such a busy few weeks, new team members have started whilst others are departing for new adventures. It's such a fast yet hectic process but it's refreshing all the same. 

We said goodbye to our Email Marketing assistant Hannah Jag-Nathan and we are saying farewell to our Client Marketing and PR assistant Fran Walker who will be sorely missed!

The Interns guide to employment

Hundreds of thousands of fresh graduates are poised to leave university and join the job market. So this is a little letter to you all, to offer guidance and assistance in your internship/job hunt.
