Hello TARGETjobbers, it’s time for the news roundup :)
Our editor Ross is unfortunately poorly today so it’ s
up to me, Jackie, to keep you updated with the latest graduate recruitment news
this week. Bear with me as I try my best to make him proud.
It has been a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to news this week, however it was the
construction, property and engineering industries, as well as law that were making the
most noise. So let’s start with that:
- On Tuesday we started with a good/bad news story announcing that although latest official construction output figures were discouraging, two big facilities management companies are doing well financially. It's a good idea to find out who they are when looking for jobs in this area.
- We also told you that ARUP has signed up to lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) equality charity Stonewall’s DiversityChampions Programme – this is the first construction employer to do so.
- For law, we had Hannah Dow, trainee solicitor at national firm DWF telling us how to impress at interview panel.
- Following on from that we closed the week by telling you that top law firms retain majority of trainees. Great news if you have just secured a training contract.
In other areas
- If IT is the industry for you, hear what IT professionals have to say about which skills are set for growth. This will be very useful when choosing modules at university and show employers you have the skills they need.
- We told you that high street fast-food chain Greggs plans to create 500 UK jobs
- Capgemini reported growth in revenues and increased revenues. Good news for those wanting to work for the group – and a reminder that the 2013 graduate schemes will begin to accept applications at the end of September.
We also reported on the National Union of Students survey
which revealed amongst other things that:
·
Three quarters of new students worry about jobs after university. Although unemployment among graduates is still lower than for
those without a degree, the worry is still there. Our response: There is plenty
of advice on our careers pages that will help you make the most out of your
degree and extra-curricular activities to help you stand out from the
competition.
· For those that have graduated, Ross has written
a great article on mistakes to avoid when you accept a graduate job offer. You may
think you have it all in the bag but follow these simple steps to make sure you
don’t lose it at the last hurdle.
· Lastly, check out the latest jobs here.Good luck to all those applying.
